Ford Recalls 242K Mavericks for Faulty Rear Positioning Lights

May 3, 2024
The problem is related to the truck’s Body Control Module being miscalibrated.

Ford has issued a recall for over 242,000 trucks due to faulty rear positioning lights, according to Consumer Reports.

The recall applies to Ford Maverick trucks from model years 2022 through 2024. Recalled vehicles are prone to their rear positioning lights not coming on, though brake lights, turn signals, and headlights appear to be unaffected.

The problem is related to the truck’s Body Control Module (BCM), which is calibrated to provide enough of a current for a single-position lightbulb. As the Maverick is equipped with two position lights, the BCM is not providing enough power for both lights to operate simultaneously.

Ford has received 11 potential warranty claims related to the problem, but no injuries or crashes. To remedy the problem, dealers are instructed to update the BCM software. Though previous software updates have been applied for similar issues, this new one will be needed regardless of whether those were received.
